Node 2.0 Flow Migration Open Call Announcement

On Wednesday, August 27 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time, the Exchange Network's Network Technology Group (NTG) will host an open call with Exchange Network Partners. The call will provide updated information on Node 2.0 implementations and resources that will be made available to help in migrating your Node and Flows to Node 2.0. This open call is also an opportunity to pose questions to the members of the NTG. The agenda for this open call will complement and expand on information presented during the Exchange Network National Meeting in April. The conference call will use web conferencing software; information on how to join the web conference is provided at the end of this message.

Background Information on Node 2.0

In June, the NTG released version 2.0 of the Exchange Network Protocol, the Exchange Network Node Specification, and the Node 2.0 WSDL. The Protocol and Specification describe required changes to the Network Node software only. As such, the Exchange Network governance believes that the work to migrate most existing data flows from Node 1.1 to Node 2.0 will be minimal. The XML schemas themselves will not change. Partners will not need to repeat previous efforts in preparing a data exchange (i.e. the business process improvements, mapping to the schema). Instead, partners will only need to alter the way in which their new 2.0 Node will communicate for each flow. The changes are expected to be minor and the NTG will be documenting them in addenda to each of the existing Flow Configuration Documents (FCDs). The NTG anticipates that drafts of the FCD addenda will be available for testing purposes on the Exchange Network website in October 2008. U.S. EPA’s Central Data Exchange (CDX) anticipates being ready to support all data flows from either 1.1 or 2.0 Nodes by October 2008. Once each flow has been successfully tested between CDX’s version 2.0 Node and a partner’s version 2.0 Node, final copies of the FCD flow addenda will be posted to the Exchange Network website for general use. The NTG will cover all of this and more on the August 27th call.

Questions

If there are specific questions or information you would like to see presented on the call, the NTG encourages you to submit them in advance so that they may address the topic as completely as possible. You may submit your questions or requests to mike.reich@ross-assoc.com by August 26th. If you have any questions about the structure or agenda for the open call, please contact the NTG Co-chairs.
