NOB Issues New Procedures for Managing Changes to Exchange Network Resources
As the Exchange Network grows, its continued success and vitality will depend heavily on tools to effectively manage changes to existing resources. The Network Technology Group (NTG) has produced a change management strategy for the Exchange Network in a new document called Principles, Rules, and Procedures for Change Management on the Exchange Network. This comprehensive strategy will help provide clarity to the development process and allow for easy integration of new ideas, while helping to maintain consistency and predictability across the Network.

The document lays out principles for managing changes on the Exchange Network and describes rules and procedures based on these principles. The rules and procedures include guidance on managing changes to flow components and other Network resources, such as XML schemas and Flow Configuration Documents. The paper also includes procedures for communicating changes on the Network in a way that is efficient and transparent to all partners.

The Network Operations Board (NOB) has reviewed this document and set an effective date for use of February 1, 2007. As with all Network documents, use of this strategy will provide opportunities for identifying the need for further process improvements. Users are encouraged to forward any suggestions for future edits or reconsideration.

You can find a copy of this document along with two appendices that summarize its content at http://www.exchangenetwork.net/dev_schema/changemgmt.htm. If you have any questions please contact the NTG co-chairs - Scott Totten (scott.totten@dnr.mo.gov) or Connie Dwyer (dwyer.connie@epa.gov).
