data exchange description
The Underground Injection Controls (UIC) data exchange allows Network partners to share information on underground injection wells. Underground injection is the technology of placing fluids underground, in porous formations of rocks, through wells or other similar conveyance systems. Facilities across the United States and in Indian Country discharge a variety of hazardous and nonhazardous fluids into more than 400,000 injection wells as a more cost effective alternative to treating and releasing waste to surface waters. The Safe Drinking Water Act established the Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program to provide safeguards so that injection wells do not endanger current and future underground sources of drinking water. For more information on EPA's UIC program, please visit the U.S. EPA's UIC webpage.
implementation resources
The UIC documentation package has been received and reviewed by the NTG Conformance Committee. The Committee has deemed the schema and supporting flow documentation acceptable for use on the Exchange Network. The UIC data exchange is currently in version 1.0. The following links
are to implementation resources for this most recent version.
For more information on the schema and documentation review, you can read the developer's Schema Conformance Report, the accompanying NTG Conformance Review, and the Schema Conformance Report Addendum, which addresses a number of the issues identified by the NTG. For additional information on the review process, please visit the section on Publishing a Data Exchange.
