Network partners can use the Exchange Network to submit data to EPA's Air Quality System (AQS). AQS is a national database that contains ambient air quality monitoring data collected by State, Tribal and local governments. This information is used to determine compliance with clean air standards, assess the nature of air pollution problems in North America, and assess the exposure of humans to toxic and other dangerous airborne pollutants.
A new version (2.0) of the AQS XML schema is now available below. U.S. EPA began supporting version 2.0 of the schema for submissions to the AQS system on June 1, 2007. Version 2.0 of the schema was written to accomodate exchanges with EPA's AQS system as well as with other Network partners. Partners can now use the same schema to share real-time air quality data among themselves. Version 2.0 of the AQS schema is also compliant with the Environmental Sampling and Results (ESAR) data standard. Please see the Guide to Testing AQS Submissions for more information on getting started.
